i recently installed win 2k on one partition and win xp on another after a computer crashe wrecked my xp

now in both operating systems when i try to playback video files they open with audio but the picture is low quality with low resolution and poor coloring.

I am not sure...is that a codec issue? could it be a graphics card driver issue? i jsut updated.....

the other thing which is strange, playing the same video files in virtualdub the picture is perfect

I am a newbie but think i probably might have a codec issue, but dont understand how it can affect two seperate operating systems.

I also dont know how to get rid of all the codecs on my system to try and sort it out

Does virtualdub somehow use its own ccodecs? and is there such a media player that i can download with its own inner codecs so i can see if that is the problem?

the other thing....differently encoded video files are all coming with the same problems, eg divx, mpeg ...etc all have the resolution problem.

sorry if i am not explaining this well, as i say i am new to all this and just need to find a way to get my video clips playing properly!

    thanks for help!

by the way i recently updated drivers for my nvidia 6800 GT

is it possible that that could be causing these problems?

I manage to fix it!!)

Uninstall the laters Nvidia drivers (77.72)

install the old drivers (in my case 71.89)

Works like a charm for me ;o)
