i have a SB5100 MOTOROLA surfBOARD MODEM, but can't seem to access the settings to open the port i want to use on it. i have set a static ip, and also opened a port in the firewall... nat test says ok, but still only get download speeds of about 5 kb/s???? Can anyone help me with this problem please as i am getting a little frustrated with the slow speeds.
open command prompt and type in "ipconfig /all" without the quotes and scroll down till you get to DNS servers. open a web page and type that address in the address section and enter. That should give access to your modem settings. Hope this helps!
@spenp28 You're not using a router or at least you didn't list it. With that being said, there is no port forwarding that can be done. All you can do is open the port in your firewall and allow whatever program you're using access through your firewall. Port Forwarding is done with routers since most of them have a built in firewall that can prohibit connections. If that doesn't work, you may want to open different ports. My advice on that, don't use the normal ports (default). For example ports 6881-6889 tend to have restricted access by ISPs. You can use whatever ports you want as long as your program's settings has been edited to use them and the port(s) has been opened and/or forwarded properly.
