When I bought my current computer It was a Intel Pentium Duel core (or Something like that I know it was a 2Ghz or higher possibly even 3 or more... I've had it for about 3-4 years and when I bought it was top of the line in terms of speed) Lately I've noticed that my computer is really slowing down Ie. when I am using flash in any net browser (Firefox, IE), Games that I had no problem with only a few weeks ago are choppy the sound is bad and/or will be running fine and then suddenly crash... I just checked my system and it's now telling me that my processor speed is only 1.6Ghz. Can someone tell me why I've lost almost a full ghz of speed?
what does it show in the bios for cpu speed? what is the make & model# of the computer or motherboard?
Where would I find this information for the bios and motherboard? (I have no idea about the technical workings of a computer just enough to know where to put new components and how to use it) the Computer model is a Compaq Persario SR5250NX
when you press the start button, press and hold the delete key as the computer boots up. This will get you into the BIOS (a blue dos like GUI) you will be looking for the setting that has the cpu multiplier setting. It will show a base mhz that is multiplied x . Example it could be 200x10 which will give you 2000mhz. You can adjust the multiplier until you get what you need for your processor, just don't go too high because you will overclock. I've had the multiplier reset to a lower setting before for no apparent reason, so it does happen.
When I reboot and hold the Delete as the comp boots nothing happens it just loads windows I don't get the bios screen at all I tried doing it several times but like I said it just boots windows.
If your computer came with Vista or later, press F10 repeatedly to enter the system BIOS screen. If your computer came with XP or earlier, press F1 repeatedly to enter the system BIOS screen.
