I often encounter a failed burn when trying to burn a DVD using Nero Express with a message stating there was a power calibration error. Normally if I try to burn the same project immediately after, it will work fine. Does anyone know how to fix this? I also encounter it when trying to copy a DVD straight across from one burner to the other. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hello.

I'm not a big proponent of disk to disk copying. Most of the time you're better off to simply rip the disk to your HDD and go from there.

Power calibration errors can be hardware related but most of the time they are caused by (1) trying to burn too fast and (2) uaing poorer quality media.

Try burning at half or less the rated speed of the media, usually 8X or 4X and use decent media like Verbatim. Also make sure your firmware is up to date.

You might also try using ImgBurn for burning to see if your installation of Nero may be an issue.

    http://www.imgburn.com (free)

If you have a Nero log of one of the failures, it'd be of use if you want to post it here, editing out your name and serial number of course.

Here is the log of the error. Most often I do let it burn at 18X, which is just the default max speed. I'll try it at lower speeds. Also, how do I check on my firmware?

    Thanks for your help!
