Power failure on format of external hard drive

    Help I was formatting my WD Passport and had a power failure now my PC won't recognize it or if it does shows as a CD Drive. I'm on XP

    If it's under warranty, send it in.

    If it's not, it sounds like at a minimum, the enclosure is dead and you may be able to replace it.

    The external power supply is supposed to be the first line of defense and it's possible that it's gone flaky.

    Before you do it, you should try to see if you can install the HDD internally to see that it is still in working order.

    How do I go about doing that cuz I don't see any way of taking it apart. Thx

    I did a google search on "disassemble WD passport"

    2210 hits in .25 seconds, including several YouTubes.
