I have been a Nero user for years but recently thought the performance with movie dvd's needed improvement. I saw the god reviews of Power DVD here and in PC Mag so I bought a copy. It was a bad experience. The site is not well laiid out and plcaing an order is quite difficult. It is one those sites that takes your order then asks you to register and then statrs all over again and requires complete reconfirmation. After downlaoding and installing the application presented itself without clearly asking for the source drive, in my case a Sony DVD RW 510f. After pointing Power DVD to the drive it opened and then imediately closed, sending an erro log somewhere. The diagnostics checked out my system as OK and noted that I had a Sony Drive but recommended I continue to use Windows XP. No way of changing this. Altogether one of the worst software experiences i have had in years and very surprising givn the price was over $60, completely wasted i guess. onclejon
Thanks for your message. Unfortunatley the telephone technical support is in the Far East, Monday to Friday so I could not talk to them. The email response I got was very naiive: it suggested to try running the program in low resolution mode, with all other applications, including interent connection closed or alternatively to use Windows media player. Well changing resolution and refesh did not work and even had it would be no good to me if I had to abandon all the performance of my high quality graphics card and monitor to use it. WMP worked OK but then why buy PowerDVD! I will not spend more time with PowerDVD but remove , and write it off to experience. I was misled by the rave review in PC magazine but never again. I have gone back to Nero 6 which coincidentally has just released a full range of updates to ensure compatibility with the latest Nvidia Geforce 6800 display cards and drivers. Perhaps PowerDvd 6 is not yet comptible with the latest Nvidia high perfomance cards
