I just got an Epson R200 that prints right on an inkjet printable cd, and man does it print beautiful pictures but I seam to be having problems with the ink smearing when I print on a cd. Is there any special brand of printable cd that is better than anther or is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? I’m using prodisc diamond die printable cd-r’s and I really don’t won’t to have to give up the professional look of the diamond die.
Hi, I just got the same printer (Epson R200) and picked up a spindle of 30 Memorex 52x Printable CD-R's. They are actually made my Prodisc, but the surface is white. I am not sure what the Prodisc diamond die surface looks like. The ink does NOT smear on the Memorex Printable white surface CD and the images look great when you select CD/DVD Premium Surface in the Epson Advanced settings before you print. When I touch the print it does not smear, but Epson still recommends 24hours dry time for the Premium Surface prints. Im not sure how hard ur touching your printed cd's or if ur rubbing them. TOM...
Thanks for the info, I've been looking at the same Memorex cd-r's you were talking about but I don't want to spend $15 if I don’t have to, but I think you have convinced me to give them a try. The prodisc cd's have a white printable top, the diamond die refers to the die they use to make the cd with in this case thay use a diamond die to make the bottom of the cd look like a cd-rom.
This is a followup on the Memorex Printables. As i said the ink does not smear at all, but the ink is not water proof on printable CD-R's. If u get the print wet it will come off. Ive also noticed that depending on the moisture in the air or on ur fingers u can smudge the ink specially small black test on the white surface. Not really bad smudging, but still possible. A friend of mine said I might be able to find a spray on coating that will make the surface moisture proof after I do my prints. I will post my results on the protective coating. TOM...
I also just bought one of teh Epson CD-R printers. Outstanding results compared with the EZ-CD 5700. No vibration in the process and excellent print resolution. Sent my 5700 off to my son as a gift. Has anyone compared the Ritek or Taiyo Yuden printables? I'm after both quality if recording and quality of labelling in one package. Cost is secondary.
