I have been using Nero for my backup purposes and have recently been getting the error messages invalid field in command and buffer under run. I have been using the program for over a year now without trouble and then all of the sudden this started happening. The only things I had done were updated my antivirus, xp updates, and java updates. I did however try restoring my computer to an earlier point before the updates and still have the same problem. Can anyone let me know what's going on before I go and buy another burner. I even updated the firmware.

    Thanks,

    Jody

Buffer underrun is sometimes caused by DMA being turned off, which you don't want. Right-click My Computer, select Properties, find Device Manager and right-click on the IDE channel your burner is on (usually secondary) and choose Properties. It should say either DMA, UDMA, or PIO. If it says PIO, uninstall it and reboot the computer, Windows should pick it up right away and you should be in DMA mode. If it restarts you back in PIO, check your BIOS to make sure DMA is enabled.

If all this is confusing or doesn't help you, post your Nero log (minus serial number, usually begins with 1A...).
