I have managed to convert from Cam to AVI using Pinnacle Home Studio software. The AVI looks perfect, I then used DVD Santa to make .VOB files which also play and look ok, but here is where my problem starts. When I burn to DVD the pictures distorts and goes kinda fuzzy around straight edges (hope you understand) as the cam picture moves the picture looks worse.

I hope you know what I mean, it is hard to explain. I have tried to burn using Nero Burning Rom with the same results and I have also tried to slow the burn down to 2x because I thought that might be the problem. It is as if the frames can't keep up as the cam pictures moves.

    Thanks for any help guys!

    Guys

I have decided to give up on this project because having looked even closer at the preview window when capturing video, I am sure that I can see a slight break up in the picture as the image moves, like I descrive above, this must then be exaggerated when burnt to DVD, i assume? I have done this before with success but cannot get it right this time no matter what I try, so time to give up.

Anyway I now have 3 x .AVI files from my Hi8 tapes and want to put them onto disk to keep safe but they total 6 Gig, so how can I do this please? Have tried Nero onto a DVD but it wants to author them and I want them kept as AVI's.

Is there a way to put 3 x AVI onto CD or DVD as archive AVI?

    Can anyone help please???

No problemo graham...now do as i say
    1. Get a good software like Cyberlink Powerdirector 5 one of the best authoring tools for beginners.Capture your cam hi8 tapes directly to MPEG-2(DVD) format or MPEG-1(VCD) format directly its all menu driven, the edit and spice up your videos and burn em all your woes are solved.Always use professional softwares from people who are in the business like Cyberlink or Ulead.
I strongly suggest try it you will love the software.
    Let me know!

    Hi there Kurian

    Thanks for the advice.

I did think the software I am using (Pinnacle Studio) was professional)???

Is Cyberlink better then? Will it burn my Cam tapes to DVD? I am happy to buy another program as long as it will sort my problems.

    Thanks again
