I used to be able to put things onto cd by draging them onto it. When i put a blank disk in the drive, it loads and presents me with a blank window. Here, i used to be able to drag what i wanted onto disk.

The other day tho, it came up with an error message saying

    Error copying file or folder.
'Cannot create or replace (the file name in question): The requested resource is in use.'

Anyone know how i can make it so i can copy stuff onto it this way again without this message appearing? It was fine until a few days ago....

    Any help really appreciated.

I forgot to mention that when the message appears, the file in question isnt actually in use! This message appears for anyfile which i try to copy too.

I can burn files to CD however using nero, but i dont want to do it this way as i like to leave the cd open for more things to be added if you get what i mean.

Anyone know what it could be?

    Thanks for any help given

Can you give us a hint what CD burning software you are using?

Its the windows xp burning thing. All you do is put a blank disk in and the cd window appears. You can then drag files into that window which will then be copied to the disk. But the above error message appears and wont let me do it but dont know why. It was working fine till a few days ago...

no, autoplay is deffinatly still working. The window still appears blank as normal. The problem occurs when im draggin the file into the window for the blank cd.

It never used to happen but is really frustrating!

Don't know what to tell you except the burning sw that comes with XP sucks. :)

You might try some freeware from the above page and google for more. Likely you can find XP freeware that works better than the stuff that comes with XP. Many people like CDRDAO but I could never seem to get it to work for me. If worse comes to worse you can always download Nero demo and try it. :)

hmm ok, cheers for the help.

Ive got nero but cant find an option where it lets you keep the disk open after burning... It always finalizes it so you cant add more to it later.

Anyway i'll have a look on that site and hunt around to see what comes up. Thanks

Ok, for one thing, from what I've heard, if you have another CD burner app installed, you're supposed to shut off the XP burning service since it will conflict with other burner applications. You'll prolly need to be logged in as Owner or Administrator. Then go to Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, Services and Disable "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service"

Mine is disabled and Nero works fine. I'm running XP Home SP2.
