So I have a AVI file that is about 1.8 Gb and I wanted to remove certain parts of it. So I opened it in VirtualDub and proceeded to edit out the parts I didn't want. Pretty simple. When I was done, the output file was just what I wanted. But when I tried saving the file it started processing or something and about 30 seconds into the movie it was at 4GB. Why is the output file expontentially larger than the original? Shouldn't the edited video be smaller? How do I save this so that the deleted scenes are deleted and the file becomes smaller? Thanks.

Oh, just a a quick note. I tired saving the new file by going to File and then clicking Save as AVI.

If you don't do anything by default VirtualDub will save the avi in uncompressed format. That's why it's so huge. Basically you have to choose in the Video and Audio menus what processing mode and if you are going to compress, which codecs you want to use. See one of the VirtualDub Guides for step by step instructions.

Just set both "Audio" and "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy" and your Problem will be Solved.....
