Simple Question (i hope) as to what i'm doing wrong? I have a Viper chip freshly installed, soldered no problem even if a little tricky in parts. Connected to the parallel port and the lid sensor passthru. Installed cobra v1.2 bios without a problem and on the first boot got the little menu up no problems so far. I can run original discs in the thing no problem but the problem comes with running a DVD with an iso on it: I've got Datawrite DVD+R's and Philips DVD+R's with an iso burn't from nero, making sure i finalize the disc, but... Selecting boot from disc just spins the disc for about 3 seconds, gives up and takes me to the default GC menu you get when there is no disc. Selecting Disc Explorer tells me "Unknown File System" Thats all i can offer. Im assuming the chip / passthru are installed correctly as the new bios is loaded and originals run! I heard that GC's are picky with media types tho? And somewhere i read about having to tweak the power to the laser for some reason? Any of that affect me? Any advice greatly appreciated. Mark
Problem Solved. For anyone who is interested. Datawrite DVD+R's are qulaity enough media although you have to adjust you power to your laser. Apparently there is no definitive adjustment, its trial and error: http://www.duey2k.com/info/NGC/lasertweak4.html
OMG!! I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROB. Everything went so well! Installing the Viper, flashing it and copying the games but man! Once copied with Nero (finalizing) it says FILE SYSTEM UKNOWN and Gives DRE at game boot. How did u do it? Did u use the voltmeter to see the ohms. Can you tell me at what OMH value did u set your POT? ( laser adjust) I am desperate here!
I didn't use a voltmemeter. Couldn't find it (even tho its bright yellow). So i was just careful and turned it little by little and on about thr 4th try... sucess. Just make sure you mark where it was originally or write down the original resistance so you can alwasys go back to square one if need be. I tweaked mine to the left about a quarter of a turn in the end but i don't know values! Apparently, i read somewhere the end values vary from unit to unit as to what is best. Although it is apparently a bad move to go below 180, things can knacker then, sorry thats the best help i can offer.
Hey thats big help....because I really didn't know what to do.I played with the POT for 2 hours yesterday.BUT I guess I was turning it a little too much lol.I will try to play with it again. Thanks again.
