I tried dvd x copy express several times and everytime it says it burned sucessfully but I can't get the back up to play. either on my dvd player or in my pc. it says that the format is unrecognized. I did backup one dvd that wasn't protected with roxio(by it's self )and that one plays fine. I have ruined like 5 dvd-r and 5 dvd+r and I am getting tired of making drink coasters. any sugesstions? Amd I doing something wrong? I updated my driver for my dvd burner I disabled roxio drag to disc. I am lost
Hi there ToddGod, Has anyone ever told you about a disc they have out called an RW disc ? It allows you to write on them time after time so that when you are trying something for the first time you won't waste 10 DVD's. Now for the root of the matter, are you using a decent quality DVD to write on ? Something of the quality needed for DVD Backups ? It sounds like you're using something for Data or MP3 files etc. like Memorex or something equally poor - Tell me what stuff you're trying to burn on - Pete
Well first off I used Fry's electronic store brand of dvd-r's. but those didn't work even though I was able to make a good copy of a non protected dvd with roxio on that media. Okay and then yes I did try memorex both dvd-r and dvd+r to no avail. so is it a poor quality media? What is a good media to use for backups then?
okay I figured it out. I was not aware that your computer had to be formated with ntfs. I was going to try to use dvd decrypter and it said that fat32 was not supported so I converted my harddrive and was able to make a backup with dvd x copy. I have been trying to do this for several weeks and never found a referance to using ntfs. weird. well problem solved for now thanks.
It really should not really make a differance if your drive is formatted to fat32 or ntfs when using this programme.Converting to ntfs won't have sorted your problem this will be down to you using dvd x copy which is straight forward and easy to use.If you do start to have problems with the software your using there is some really good and straight forward guides to other software on this site you may want to check out.I do think you have made a wise choice though going from fat32 to ntfs as it is much better than fat32 but that is just my opinion.
ToddGod, When you have your PC configured to FAT32 you limit your file size to 4GB. By changing to NTFS you lift that size cap. If your problem was FAT32, you wouldn't have had the problem you described, you just wouldn't have been able to backup a DVD over 4GB in size. As John said, NTFS is a much better OS filing system, you’ll be happy you made the conversion. To answer your question, “branded” Verbatims or Ritek G04’s are a good bet, chances are they are cheaper than what you’re paying at Fry’s. Cheers, Pete
Pete are you sure that is right about fat32 as i use to have files saved on my hard drive which were up to 8gb in fat32.I converted as it was faster.I remember saveing the file to my drive and then i would squeeze it with dvd2one or something like that in to another file.As you quite rightly pointed out though iam also under the impression ntfs is not capped and is much better.
