    Hello Blingn,

Welcome to the afterdawn forums. I got the solution for your problem. A while back Apple Inc. was sued by a woman saying that the iPod's unrestriced volume caused here to go partially deaf. She did win the lawsuit, got a huge settlement, and Apple Inc. had to release a firmware update to fix the 'Uncontrolled volume" problem. I am sure that your friend updated to this firmware and restricted his/her volume. I couldnt find the actual firmware but I found something called iPod Volume Booster (free at, http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13653). Its at macupdate.com so if it doesnt work on a windows pc then you know why.
