I just installed Nero 6 on my new computer(it came with my Sony DVD burner, which works fine after running the utility on the Sony site) and every time I try to burn a data DVD it fails. So I tried DVDShrink on a movie and it got about half way through the burn process and said "Communication Error" and then it failed. I tried updating to the newest version of 6 but that didn't work. I really need to back up some files. I saved both logs. PLEASE HELP

Go to this location, find Nero history log and post it

Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt

BTW: If you are using Vista on your new comp then Nero 6 is not compatable.

I am running XP Pro. I used the same disc that I used on the old computer. I just talked to a guy at work and he came to the conclusion that the problem might be that I am trying to write these files that from a 500gb USB drive. He said the drive might be writing faster than the USB drive output. He also said that I might be able to fix that problem.

First up, edit out your serial number

Update your Nero to this version from here

    6.6.1.15

    http://www.filehippo.com/download/7717bb2aa35a8a6b405b8322e5dfe50b/download/

These are horrible discs, try Verbatim or Sony (made in Japan)

Burning way too fast, slow to 4X

You have Roxio installed, it clashes with Nero, to remove, run this zapper http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

    Thank you for the help.

I did update the initial install of Nero but then uninstalled/installed without the update.

I usually use Sony discs but I use the crappy ones when I'm burning files for somebody else.

I will take out Roxio although I didn't have a problem with it on my other computer.

Do you think the Mass USB drive has anything to do with it? When I get home, I'm going to try to burn files from the main drive which is a 10,000rpm Raptor.

I would take Roxio off as a last resort. I use both on the same PC without issues. InCD is not installed from Nero. In deference to gwendolin, Roxio does cause some problems for some people, I have not been one.

I believe the "Latest" versions of Roxio are OK but earlier versions surely did conflict, Cheers.

    @gwendolin

I'm using version 7, not updated in years. Been working with Nero 66018 all those years. One reason I don't want to upgrade either. I still use EZCD Sound Editor and Nero for everything else. :)

Why do I need InCD? When I highlight the install icon, it says that it is used for rewritable media which I don't use.

Well, my friend at work was right. I transferred the files from the USB drive to my main drive and Nero had no problem burning. Chalk that one up for a lesson learned (and about 12 discs). Now, I want to know if I can burn from the USB drive if I change some settings?

I kind of doubt that, but it might be possible. Personally I burn media from my external drives every day and never ever have problems. There "simpleDrive" brand and "SimpleTech" branded drives.

Doubt it all you want. On my last computer I had no problem but with my upgraded motherboard (I'm running a P4, last board was a pos and upgraded one is an Asus P4P-800e deluxe) I think my DVD drive is writing info faster than the USB can handle. 12 times in a row, Nero failed to burn from the USB drive with all different burn speeds. When I switch to my main drive, no problem 4 times in a row. Sounds like a contolled experiment to me.
