I have a PC with Pentium 3 533Mhz Processor. I dunno why, my motherboard (or BIOS I think says it's a 366Mhz Pentium PRO). My Motherboard Model is KL97-XV. Now, the problem is when I inatall WinXP (any version, PRO or HOME) by booting it from a CD. It loads fine. But it hangs when it writes "Setup is starting Windows", just before the license agreement page. I've tried for more than 10 times, the results are the same. It's quite weired. It doesn't hang when I install Win98SE. * I've tried to remove the Pentium III Processor and insert a Pentium 2 Processor (266Mhz), it didn't hang when installing WinXP, but it takes a long time!
Sounds to me like you have hardware/driver compatibility problems with XP. If 98SE runs OK and XP wont, that's what I'd assume first. You might want to check the Microsoft site, they have an XP compatibility list, and Asus may can supply you with updated drivers at their site. I've got XP Pro running on an old Intel machine with a 667MHz processor. It's sloooooooooooooooooooooow. On the processors you're using, performance is going to be dismal no matter what MS says about XP requirements. Their concern there is just stable running, not performance.
If I get a support driver (for my damn damn old Motherboard), how can I install it before installing WinXP?
are you certain that is a p3 533 & not 366 as bios states? check in bios to see if can change cpu settings or on the motherboard for dipswitches or jumpers. read motherbook manual for that info.
I've tried to change buss speed to 83Mhz, max clock for my motherboard (default- 66Mhz) and my PC "screams" madly. I've tried other clock speed but all didn't work. And I get that information from its sticker(on that processor)... And my cousin have used it on another motherboard, it's 533Mhz,can be over-clocked to 800Mhz.
is the cpu a slot or a socket. what is printed on the cpu such as 533 133 512k. 553 is cpu speed, 133 is the bus speed & 512k is the ram cache on the cpu. is possible that cpu won't work properly unless there is a bios update for motherboard to see true cpu speed or get a board that sees that cpu.
The problem is I cannot find any update for my Motherboard.... I try one(other model) and it says "Your system doesn't support flash."
check this link as your board can't go past 333mhz on a 66mhz bus speed. get a newer-used board that will support that cpu. needs to be able to handle 133mhz bus speed. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=bph05568
according to hp link, can only go upto 83mhz not 100mhz which even than is below the 133mhz needed to run your 533mhz cpu properly.
Help me! And my pc cannot even boot when I modify its jumper to 83 Mhz! It can only run at highest bus rate of 66Mhz. Why it's like this? Why???
the motherboard cannot support that cpu as that cpu probably needs 133mhz bus speed but motherboard only goes to 83mhz. get a newer board & cpu to fit in your system & parts as can't make a 533mhz cpu to work on a motherboard designed for 333mhz.
One more question, I've spotted there's a group of jumpers labeled "clock Frequency" with options 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5. Can they be modified? ... to increase CPU speed?
