When I went to bring my Linux computer out of sleep mode it did nothing. So I tried restarting the machine. It wouldn't fully load so I tried restarting again. If finally loaded but the keyboard and mouse wasn't responding.

After restating it three more times I finally got the keyboard and mouse to respond. I when to load it into the windows environment, and the screen went blank again. So I restarted again and now it won't even recognize the monitor.

Just to get at least the monitor to work I will try unplugging it and plugging it back in hopefully this will get it to read that it has a monitor connected.

But as for why it is doing this I have no idea. It's running on Linux SUSE 10.2 an OS I am not really familiar with. The person who had set up the computer has since passed on.

I suspect it may be some sort of hardware failure but I have never see a computer behave this way.

sounds like the usual suse crap.. I don't use it because it's broken by design.. and it runs an x-windows environment.. using the x-server routines which are nice and stable and old... but.. does suse run xorg or xfree-86?

I think you will find you have corrupt files or missing modules in the boot lists.. a symptom on linux of bad ram or a dying hdd..dunno.. wipe it and start again... with something that works.. not novell-M$ junk.

Just so you aware I am not Linux savvy and have very little knowledge of the system. I tried unplugging the monitor and plugging it back in and its still not detecting it.

I'd have a look at your CPU fan and power supply. Could be overheating or power supply could be on the fritz. Strange unpredictable behaviour that changes every time tends to happen when overheating.

Linux happens to be easier to deal with than windoze.. but not the proprietary linux like suse. .. I can't get on with that junk and I run all sorts of odd things.. solaris.. bsd.. qnx..

Mick.. I was getting exactly this when my old maxtor OS drive was on the way out.. also had a stick of dodgy ram there.. 2 puppies for the price of one.. if the hdd managed to read the ram would monster to 32mb's.. not bad for a 256 stick.. it would work.. slowly.. and the fox would segfault.

It sounds more hardware related than suse.. but who knows.. I junked suse a while ago because it was so broken... try to play an audio cd.. drive played for 2 seconds and ejected.. media players black screened.. all kinds of weird sh-t.. seriously.. I can't think of anybody on these forums who has a good word for suse.

Unlike the real free linux you don't find a lot of help for novell's selly stuff.. thgere are user forums, but they seem full of business wannabe's trying to sell you their less than expert help.

Other causes for this kind of thing is the existence of malware and wine.. now that's bizarre to say the least.. virus can't run as intended so screws with boot files.

So what's wrong with starting over with this lump of junk and installing say a debian based thing or even fedora?

    yeah i believe its a hardware issue.(overheating)
um you say the monitor aint being detected is there anyway to try and connect another monitor?
if you do and it is detected you may be able to do a memory test i believe suse 10 has the option while booting
you may know more about any problem you may have after it...
