Hello. I've had a Toshiba SD-4980 DVD player for about 3 yrs. now and everything was working fine until just a few days ago. Every time I play back any media format, be it DVD, DVD-R CD-R, etc., the audio is VERY faint and/or nonexistent. If you turn the volume up to the highest setting, you can hear the audio, albeit very faintly, along with a rapid thumping sound akin to a boat motor. Is there any possible way of fixing this, or am I pretty much screwed? Thank you.

I had the exact same problem as you; I've also had my player for about 3 years now. I am now using mine through the HDMI connection (on my new Samsung HDTV) and it seems to be working fine. If your tv doesn't have an HDMI connection, you may want to try the Digitial Coaxial connection for sound, it may work, but I have not tried it to corroborate this.
