To Playback Mpeg-2 files you should have a Software DVD Player like PowerDVD or WinDVD which will install the Codec Nescessary to Play back Mpeg-2/Vob/DVD"s.....

Why do you need to encode Mpeg-2 to AVI???

Also make sure that the Frame Rate of the Mpeg-2 file is the same as the Frame Rate of the AVI file you are Creating from it and this Might help with the audio/Video sync....

    Cheers

What about opening the MPEG2 with VirtualDub-MPEG2 and saving it as avi?
There should be any drawback on synchronization, when you make MPG --> AVI. I don't know why dr divx has troubles on it...
