    Hi

I hope I am in the right place to ask my question - apologies if not:)

I am using ConvertXtoDVD 3 to burn some DVDs and just bought some dual layer discs to use (my drive definately supports DL DVDs)

When conversion is finished it asks me to put disc in but I already have but it doesnt recognise it. I notice the tutorial on this site seemed to be saying use DVD - R but software asks for DVD+ R which is what I am using

    Any thoughts would be appreciated

Just so you know I have successfully burnt lots of discs using standard DVD + discs

    Regards

    Craig

What's the make and model of the burner? The burner isn't recognizing the media you're using so it more then likely needs a firmware update (if one is available).

What DL media are you using? Like Verbatim +R DL 8x.

The discs may be the problem. Looks like they're are made by Ricoh which from this site doesn't get a good rating on the dual layer - link
Better to use would be Verbatim.

Run live update fro your burner to see if there is a newer firmware - Samsung Live Update.
You can also find the latest firmware here - SB06

    Hi gooner59
Look for Verbatim 4x or under.

    Keep us posted.

    Hi again

I had a little brainwave and downloaded and installed a free version (older) of ashampoo burning studio which recognised dvd so it must be a convertX issue !

    Any suggestions?

    Regards

    Craig

Could be a ConvertX issue - see oif there is an update available for it.
Haven't upgraded to ConvertX 3 yet but here's a link to check the latest version - link.

Try using ImgBurn instead - a good free burner. Use the build mode to add the video_ts folder from ConvertX.
Press "L" too when you start ImgBurn. This will start a log that you can post if it should fail.
ImgBurn imho is the best program to burn dual layer.

    Hi
Yep Imgburn is a burn program. It will also rip dvd's that aren't copy protected or if you have AnyDVD running in the background for the ones that do have copy protection.
    But no conversion.

I have loaded files from Convert and tried going thru help files but imgburn says files are too big

So so far i have tried 3 apps 2 lots of dvd dual layers and still no luck. i am not a pc newbie but this is doing my head in :)

I have d/l and converted loads of times before but dual layer is proving a nightmare

What's the file size of this one?

Oh and I forgot about the recent update w/ ImgBurn - you no longer pick build mode - when you first open it pick write file/folders to disc - new gui :) Though that doesn't solve your problem.

Run the files through DVD Shrink (Free) to give it the little compression it may need. Save to you hard drive then use ImgBurn.

Not sure where this is in ConvertX 3 but next time when under encoding try setting the target size to 8100.

That is odd but glad it did the trick!

Keep ImgBurn around or give it a go - it's what I mainly use to burn dual layer.

    Happy Burning!
