I am having a problem with my Lite-On SOHW-1633s DVDRW drive. I've researched all the websites and threads I could find and tried almost everything.. I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me out! I have used this drive many times to burn dvd's, and not had a single problem until recently when I built a new computer and added the drive. I installed an Abit NF7-m board, installed a new HD, and a clean install of Windows XP sp2. I am running Nero 6 ultra edition, DVD Decrypter, and DVD Shrink. The firmware was updated to the latest version when I had my old system and the drive functioned just fine. The problem I am having is that everytime I try to burn a DVD with Nero, the burn fails after the lead-in. This happens regardless of what type of DVD I am trying to burn. If I try to burn a DVD with DVD Decrypter, the burn also fails and gives me I/O errors. I am using Verbatim media, and have never made a single coaster with it before rebuilding my computer. If I try to burn a CD with Nero, it burns just fine. The drive also functions perfectly when reading CD's or DVD's. I noticed by using Nero InfoTool that ASPI was working for Nero, but not my system.. so I installed an ASPI layer and now it is showing up as being installed and working. I have tried both versions of ASPI (4.6 & 4.7) and neither seems to fix the problem. One strange thing I noticed was that all of my IDE devices (hard drive, dvd-rom, and dvdrw) are all showing up as SCSI in the device manager. I don't recall seeing them designated as SCSI on my old system. I am tempted to buy a new DVDRW burner, but I never had a single problem with it before building this new computer... so I have a feeling that the problem is software related. check to see if you have the latest bios update, use this link http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/bios.php?categories=1&model=7 see if in the bios you have sata enabled if you are not using them than disable them
I don't know why I didn't think to check for bios updates... brainfart I guess. I'll give that a shot and reply back. It will take a while with this crappy dial-up connection I'm on. The board does not have SATA connections, and there is nothing for SATA settings in the bios. Is it normal for IDE drives to show up as SCSI in the device manager?
no is not normal to show up as scsi. also check for updated drivers both from abit & nvidia to see has newer versions. downloaded your manual & shows your board -m does not have sata but others do so are you positive is -m & not another version of that board

I can't seem to bet a break here.. I flashed the bios, uninstalled all the nvidia drivers through add/remove programs, and now I am unable to install any new nvidia drivers. When I try to install the latest nvidia chipset drivers, the splash screen comes up and the installshield wizard begins.. then disappears. I don't know what's causing that. All I can figure is maybe all the old nvidia drivers weren't properly uninstalled. I've scoured the net looking for nvidia driver clean tools, but haven't found anything. Looks like I may need to reinstall windows and start from scratch! ugh.

Go through your device manager/uninstall primary IDE channel/reboot. Do the same for secondary and see if it takes care of this issue. Also, recheck your backup target. Should be set around 4360 mbs. That did the trick! I uninstalled the IDE controller, rebooted, and windows reloaded it. Now my IDE devices are no longer showing up as SCSI. I still was unable to install the nvidia updates, even after using ccleaner (that's a great program though and will come in very handy). Everytime I tried to install nvidia updates, the installshield wizard would start and disappear. Finally, I just went to the device manager, right-clicked on each device and selected 'update driver'. I searched for new drivers in the unzipped nvidia directory that contained the new drivers and it successfully installed them. Now everything is working great. Thanks for all your help!
Hi, I have the same sort of problem. I have just put together a new Athlon computor with SATA hard drive running windows xp Professional OS, and Pioneer DVD Rom using Nero software. My dvd's and cd's stop burning after lead in. Should I just try loading new drivers? My system recogmnises the burner in the bios and I can get data from dvd's in the drive but cant burn a thing. Nero just freezes on 1% burning. I have updated nero to latest version 6. Any quick answers for me? Thanks
