Few weeks ago, my cd writer started to act very strangely. When I burned a cd with my 48X cd writer, it took nero 30 minutes to do it. It should have been only 4 minutes. I don't understand this. Nero would write 4% of the data, but then it would just stop for 20 to 30 minutes before resuming again. I tried reinstalling nero, but that didn't work. Then I tried reinstalling Windows XP, and that also didn't work. Few days ago, I stumbled into the aspi setup webpage, and I tried installing both adaptec and nero aspi drivers (one at a time of course). This also didn't work. I am getting very frustrated. I don't know what else to do here, can someone give me some suggestions.
Try different burning software to determine if it's software related or hardware related. Here's a freebie burning program. burnatonce: http://www.burnatonce.com/downloads/ Best free burning program on the net I assure you. Try different brand media (cd-r(w) as well. Shoey
Shoey, I spent all day trying to burn CDs using three different softwares. The first one I tried was Alcohol 120%. I attempted to burn a CD four times using this software, and only once that a CD was burned successfully. The other three gave me an error message that said "there is an error in the writing procedure" or something like that. The next two softwares was Fireburner and BurnAtOnce. I tried burning a CD twice with Burnatonce and both times it gave me these errors: ERROR: Power calibration failed. ERROR: Use option --force to ignore this error. ERROR: Writing failed. The last was Fireburner and this software also gave me an error. Do you think my CD writer is broken? Do you know any software that can check hardware related problems?
Try burnatonce again but this time enable "force execution" and see what happens. How young is your burner and what brand name and model# out of curiousity? I hope it's not an LG DVD Combo...... Maybe consider a firmware update "might" be the fix.... Shoey
Shoey, My burner is SONY, 48x24x48x CD-RW CRX210E1, and I just got it about 7 months ago. I tried burnatonce again with "force execution" enable and it still gave me an error. See below Writing track 01 (mode MODE1/MODE1 )... ?: I/O error. : scsi sendcmd: retryable error CDB: 2A 00 00 05 21 F7 00 00 1A 00 status: 0x2 (CHECK CONDITION) Sense Bytes: 70 00 03 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 0C 00 Sense Key: 0x3 Medium Error, Segment 0 Sense Code: 0x0C Qual 0x00 (write error) Fru 0x0 Sense flags: Blk 0 (not valid) cmd finished after 21.581s timeout 180s ERROR: Write data failed. ERROR: Writing failed - buffer under run? ERROR: Writing failed. Burnatonce started fine, but when it burned about 95% of the file, it just stop and gave me those errors. Also what's a firmware? and where can I get it?
Ouch. Try burning and then erasing a DATA CDRW..... if it fails then I regret to inform you that ur burner is on its last legs buffer under run: A situtation that occurs when the burner doesnt have a steady stream of data (either because the 1. you are burning too fast and either dont have buffer underrun protection or a small cache, 2. your CD transfer mode is set to PIO and you are trying to burn faster than 8x, 3. your harddrive transfer mode is set to PIO and you are trying to burn faster than 12x or 4. A combination of the above). I would imagine your burner has buffer underrun protection (it may be called something else but a similar sounding name) Another free burning app is Burn4Free (http://www.burn4free.com/) Eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww...... ;-P Suggestions: 1. Try reducing your burn speed 2. Do that burning a DATA-RW thing i suggested at the top 3. Firmware is a sort of mini-bios for your burner. You can find it on the Sony website..... no wait..... you cant... *grumbling*..... stupid Sony..... You can look around here... you might get lucky: http://www.firmware-flash.com/~dhc014/binfirm.htm http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mcmntl/firmware.htm http://dhc014.rpc1.org/oemcollec.htm http://www.sony.com.au/content.asp?go=itp_support.asp http://www.sony.com.hk/Electronics/cp/download.htm http://www.sonycrx2xx.org/phpbb2/login.php?redirect=viewtopic.php&p=&start=0 Damn thats annoying not being able to find anything useful on the Sony site! grrrrrr
Another reason why buffer underruns occur: Not enough physical ram and the burning application you're using is using too much physical ram. Well, this wasn't the case using burnatonce but you were successfull in one attempt. Have you tried different brand cd-r media? Disable antivirus while burning? If so then look for a firmware update as Sony cdrw's are considered "good drives". The Firmware Page http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php Go to firmware download>Sony>CDRW MTK WinFlash: http://digi.rpc1.org/mwf.htm Unzip the latest Sony firmware update (if applicable) then unzip MTK Win Flash and launch ATAPI mode then locate the bin\hex file and flash your Sony from your desktop. [bold] Appears that your Sony CRX 210E1 is a "rebagged" LiteOn (good news). The Firmware page shows a new firmware (2YS2)). [/bold] @Praetor, Again, very excellent advice m8! Shoey
