I burn alot of DVD's and i use Intervideo's Win DVD to play them or to see if they came out ok, But lately every time i burn a dvd it doesnt want to open in my Win DVD, and i tried to play it in Windows Media Player 10 but still no go, when i play them in my Stand Alone DVD Player they play fine, this burner is only 5 months old but i dont know why this is happening,Could it be my burner or my media i use Philips DVD+R 2.4x, any help would be great, Thank You TAURIAN
it is most likely caused by your MEDIA : Philips DVD+R 4.7GB CMC MAG.R01 2.4x (CMC MAG NOT GOOD~ ) i have the same burner as you, are you using the latest firmware too? it's BYX4 by the way, that might be the cause of your problems too~ try some GOOD media, Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and see if the problem persists~ good luck
Thanks for the Help Kivory, i will try upgrading the firmware and switch Media, see how it goes for me thanks again TAURIAN
Can you please tell me how to Disable the DMA on Windows XP so i can do the Upgrade, Sorry for the Noob Questions i really do appreciate The help though Thank You TAURIAN
Not sure if disabling DMA is necessary: I know that Sony recommends it and even gives a place to show how to disconnect it. But if you follow Sony's recommendation on how it leads you to a dead end. Kivory: maybe you can add some advice here...
Thanks for all your Help i just when ahead and did the upgrade without disabling the DMA then i check to see if the right firmware number was there and it was, so it seemed that i really didn't need to disable it thanks for the help TAURIAN
TAURIAN1: great to hear and happy burning. While I don't have a sony burner, I do have a sony desktop and I know how "peculiar" sony can be....
sorry for the late reply taurian, just been extremely busy at work today, got patients coming out the a$$ anyways, i WAS going to suggest just continue with the firmware update, the DMA disabling is completely UNECESSARY, it's good that you just went ahead and did it~ i have seen that most of sony's installation instructions are overly "picky"...they include any and all possible problems when it comes to updating firmware...i generally disregard ALL of the suggestions not a good idea if you are new to firmware, but you got lucky this time~ good luck to you taurian1, im glad that the update was completed successfully...let us know how your burning is after the media change~
Thanks For all your Help, just wanted to say that i appreciate it a lot, i was reading in the Forums that you can also make your Drives Region Free either With Software or Firmware, but i think they meant Hacked Firmware, how do you guys feel about this, these are my 2 Drives just in case: Sony DVD-ROM DDU 1612 Sony DVD-RW DRU 710A was wondering if it worth the effort Thanks Taurian
oh and yes burning is going good, but i will still get the better media from now on lol sorry about that
no need to apologize for anything taurian, im just glad you got things up and running smoothly now~ my opinion on "hacked firmware" is like 50/50...i have both my liteon and necs drives hacked, but i use the most up to date/[bold] official [/bold]firmware for both my main drives : pioneer dvr-109 and the sony dru-710a~ i was debating about doing a cross-flash and/or using hacked firmware for the sony, but, i decided against it as the BYX4 has worked wonderfully for me~ if it's not broke, why fix it right? stick w/ TYs and you will have smooth sailing just like me~
I also own a Sony-DRU710A with BYX4, worked wonderfully for me (even with longten media lol..), is there any available hacked firmware for the drive (jw Im not thinking in using it)??? I have my RPC1 dvd-rom and I can play with the regions whenever I want so no need to hack my 710a but still curious about any available hacked firmware.....
only hacked firmware that i know of is by 1st cross-flashing this sony into a lite-on drive, then using an upgraded firmware for that particular liteon model that removes riplock, allows bitsetting and other functions, etc.etc...i never really looked into it, but i did read it somewhere. im happy w/ my official firmware from sony, so, im not going to tinker with it~ so far so good, i've had this sony dru-710a for over a year now with at LEAST 600+ burns on this drive and it keeps on going *knock on wood* this good fortune will continue~
