Hi there, I am currently using Nero 7 Essentials on win XP (although when i start the program it says it is "Nero vision 4") and i am currently having trouble burning a DVD. I had about 5 or 6 videos which were windows media files and i simply wanted to put them on a DVD with a menu. I left the computer for nearly 2 hours while it transcoded everything and then when it finished transcoding the last file i immediatly got a "burn process failed" message and an error log. I burned an audio CD after this and that worked fine and i also burned a data disc no problem, so i guess the problem is the dvd authoring. I tried burning a DVD again this time with only one video and still got the same problem. Then I tried again and told Nero to determine the write speed before burning: again it transcoded and i imediatly got the burn failed log. I hope someone can shine some light on this as it has never happened before. Additional info is I am running on Windows XP, 640mb RAM and I use an External Samsung DVD Rewriter (only 5 months old) and burn on Samsung DVD -R media. Nero creates a log if there an error and then you choose to save it as a txt file somewhere on your hardrive.
hi mj_zak.. before you do a bunch of other crap.. which may not matter.. since you've had success in the past.. Try this.. transcode the project.. but dont burn it.. instead of burning to dvd writer, select burn to folder/directory. after its transcoded... open dvd shrink.. and open the project. See how much space the whole project takes up... most dvd's only hold 4.380mb's or 4.38gb for short. Your disk prolly says 4.7... its not the accurate size.. your disk only holds 4.380mbs So make sure the project in dvd shrink says 4.380 or less.. of not.. click on properties in the top menus and make sure you set to fit in custom size 4.380. It wil then automatically compress the project to fit on 4.380 You shoudlnt lose too much quality..unless these are 6,7 feature length movie videos. television episode size should be fine. I fit 7, 1-hour shows (42 minute episodes, minus commercials)on 1 dvd using this method. ConvertXtoDVD(set to dvd-9)then convert DvdShrink(set to custom 4.380) then BackUp! nero burning rom(set to burn at lowest speed) burn So in your case try this... Nero Vision to make dvd project with menus then save to disk instead of burn(i save to desktop, to find it easier then use dvdshrink...BackUp.. it wil basically remake your project, only compressing it just enough. Shouldnt lose to much quality either. then burn.. I got fed up with nero vision.. and am using ConvertXtoDVD 3 now No problems since. I just have to shrink the file with dvdshrink after. altho i dont have to.. i choose to.. to put 7 files on the disc I do use nero burning rom to complete the process tho.. so big ups to nero for the actual burning.. they dont go wrong there...

I think i may have found something: In Nero Express Essentials it is telling me I have three CD ROMS which are: Image Recorder (My internal CD Rewriter), D:Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-332B and F:TSSTCorp CDDVDW SE-S204N. But in "my computer" it is listing my samsung as the F Drive. Is there anyway to configure Nero to burn to my Samsung Burner. At the moment in the DVD authoring section, just before i hit burn there is the option to select the recorder. However it is only showing Image Recorder and F:TSSTCorp. Hope this makes sense and you guys can help.
yeah i see 3 and i was confused also i dont see a hard drive i could be wwrong, but did you just fit this drive your self a new addon? as i think the jumpers arnt set correctly? your samsung doesnt burn dvdr

No i have one Samsung. I've got one external Burner which is the samsung (the one i want to burn on) and an internal CD ROM Drive which i assume is listed as the image drive. No other burners or drives are hooked up, yet my computer is still listing my external samsung in the F: Drive but is not actually naming it as the samsung or letting me burn. Apart from that the printer and broadband are hooked up via USB. Perhaps I should just uninstall and then reinstall Nero??
