    Program - Outlook Express 6.0
Operating System - Windows XP SP2
    Mail Server - POP3 (Verizon)
Problem - Trouble Connecting to Server

The problem started about a week ago, before that I never had a problem with it.

When I try to check my Outlook identity for new mail, it says connecting, but remains on that for about 2 minutes. Then it pops up with an error saying that the server is not responding.

I'm able to check my mail from the Verizon site, but for some reason not through Outlook Express anymore.

Also, after trying to check my e-mail in Outlook, if I try to shut down or restart it takes alot longer than usual. First it says ending program CCapp, then it remains idol for about 3 minutes. After the 3 minutes, it goes to the screen that says saving settings and remains idol for another 3 minutes.

    Please help... :(

Ok dont worry i have this problem all the time every now and then all this is doin is tryin to find the connection and has too much in the cache memory what u have to do is the following if u are with adsl/cable:
    1)Shut Down The PC
2)Disconnect the power cable from the back of the modem
3)Leave it out for 30sec to 1min (If the pc restarts and turns on let it run then shut it down and then after that put the wire back in.
3)Go and check your mail through outlook express again
    4)It should say reciving emaiis...

Try this and let me know what happens...

    Hi,
My advice would be to open Norton, which ever version you are on, click options, select anti-virus if it's internet security, click the e-mail section on the left and untick scan incoming e-mail.

Then reopen Outlook express and try again.

I've seen norton stop e-mails in and out many times, gotta be worth a shot.

    Hope it helps.

if you are using norton, I'd uninstall it alltogether, as it is one of the worst virus apps out there. use AVG 7 Free or AVAST, they are much better at finding viruses and don't use half the resources as norton.

Ok If what i said didnt work the other way u can fix it is these other steps. Also there is no need to uninstall Norton's although i do agree with the others that AVG7 is better... Ok here are the steps

    1)just open Outlook Express

2)Stop the connecting mechnisim by clickin on connecting twices and press stop.

3)Go to the menu of "TOOLS"

    4)Go down to "Accounts"

    5)Click the "Mail" Tab

6)Click remove (note b4 u remove it write down the information of ur old account as in e.g. Email Address and mail.Internet Provider Name.com (.au if ur in australia or use ur country's abrevation)

7)Once removed just put in the information again as in seting up a new "mail account" with ur old account info.

    8)Exit outlook after this.

    9)Restart the PC

10)After you come back in try opening Outlook Express again

    11)Should revice emails now...

    Good Luck... Keep me posted....

Here's the error I get after I try to connect to the server:

A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account: 'incoming.verizon.net', Server: 'incoming.verizon.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

I'm gonna try what you said right after I post this. Fingers-crossed... :|

Also, I tried my other POP3 account (not related to Verizon) and that doesn't work either.
