problem with pioneer 107

I have had this 107 for awhile working great. Just had to wipe things clean and start over. I reinstalled xp, nero,shrink, and everything else so i thought. went to do first backup and burn failure it actually said it was complete and i clicked ok but the page below said it was still burning(no lights on burner) only 1/2 of movie on it. retried and the burn failed. i get complete failure with verbatum the mixed up messages with fujifilm. said to myself -firmware- went to pioneer got it but it wont install? i have version 1.1 and i thinkl the update would cure it but 1/2 way thru the install it says cant find the burner? any ideas? anytime I've had issues afterdawn has fixed it when manufacturers cant(asus). so I'm coming here first.
