Hello all, I am no video expert, but I am pretty good at figuring stuff out and getting it working. I have adobe premiere 1.5 and encore 1.5. I ripped some old video footage of a concert off a VHS and wanted to put it on DVD. Everything worked fine, I created motion menus, and all that jazz, but the problem I am having is when I burn the DVD. The original footage had a timebar running near the bottom of the video (pretty much bottom left corner), like counting hours, minutes, seconds, frames. I wanted to cover that up, so I just put some static text/picture over it, and it looked great. When I burn the DVD and view it in WinDVD, it looks fine. However when I put it in my regular DVD player, and play it on my TV, the bottom of the shot is cut off, and half the static text I had put on is not visible. I am losing over an inch of the shot. I tried on 2 different TVs with 2 different DVD players, with the same results. (one TV is a 50" 16:9, the other is a 32" 4:3) The original footage was ripped in at 720x480, and I did not mess with any settings that would stray from default. Also, as I said, it works fine in winDVD. So I can only guess that it has something to do with the way it is played through the DVD players, but I have no idea what it could be. any suggestions???
I have transfered some old movies that I had on VHS years ago. I used MySonicDVD to capture the video straight from the VCR to the computer and it came out ok. The only thing that I had an issue with was it's poor quality. From a regular TV of 27" to my 52" HD the graininess is too much to take. I stopped doing that and just make my backups of the DVDs for this reason. I am stumped on how yours plays fine on the computer but not on your player for your TVs. Sorry I can't help you with that.
Thanks, and I do not mean to be rude, but that really doesn't help me at all. I am looking for information as to why in Adobe Encore the video looks one way, and also looks this way when viewing the finished DVD on my PC, but on a standalone DVD player, the format is different. Is 720x480 a standard format for DVD video? Is there something I need to change in my settings for Premiere or Encore to get this to work right?
what exactly am I supposed to be greatful for? You posting that you have no idea what I am talking about and have no idea how to fix my problem? Yeah I guess I should be real greatful to you for posting useless information that has NOTHING to do with my issue at all.. Thanks....
you know...... it's your attitude man..... for someone who is asking for help you had a terrible attitude. don't worry ..... I won't be talking to you anymore.
Ok, so if you walked into a hardware store, because your toilet was not working, and you ask for help, and the guy starts to tell you how to install a ceiling fan, how is your attitude going to be???? I am a member of tons of forums on the web, both that I ask question on, and answer questions on... If I don't know the answer, I don't reply. You should do the same.. you are probably a senior member on here because you go around posting useless information that has nothing to do with the question that was asked.
@kleinma--- Then you should know that sometimes the key to figuring out what a problem IS would be to have help finding out what it ISNT!!! Not taking sides here, OK maybe I am but I personally or virtually know neither you or IHOE. THEN DONT BE Ignorence is bliss. Stay happy.
to be honest, I didn't feel I WAS being rude by telling someone their comments don't help me. I stated that "I do not mean to be rude" because comments on websites aren't always taken the right way, and I didn't want the poster to feel as though I was bashing them. But then they felt the need to respond again, so at that point I WAS rude, and on purpose... I totally agree with you that figuring out a problem takes steps and troubleshooting, but HIS inital comments to my problem were 100% off topic and useless to me, so why bother posting them at all? The last time I had an A/V issue, I posted on this forum, and got people doing the same thing.. so I really have to wonder what level of A/V skill people actually have on this forum. I thought this was THE place to get answers to questions about audio and video editing/authoring, but I never get any valid answers it seems. People just post about their own issues, or post nonsense. Does anyone know of a forum where I can actually get real information?
I am going to take the high road as IHOE has done and not post again. You don't like the opinions of only 2 of the millions who have registered at Afterdawn. Then you insult the whole site I dont have all day to give a civics lesson as to why people responded to you they way we have.
are you referring to overscan? If so, that is the only logical explanation I have come across as to why this would happen. From what I have read there is no real way to correct this as far as the DVD is concerned.. its a TV and/or DVD player limitation. So my plan is to make sure all important parts of the video (IE any on screen text, etc..) falls within the "safe" area of the video... oh yeah and thanks for being the only person to actually post something relevant to my original question.
hey you said you weren't going to post again... and if you might have noticed.. i was pleasant to him because like you said.. he actually read my question, and responded with an intelligent answer... which was a first for this thread... I am not an bumhole... I just can't stand when people post in forums for no good damn reason other than to post. If you know the answer, or can even provide information surrounding the answer, then I am more than happy to hear it, even if it doesn't lead me to a solution. But to post that you don't have any idea what a solution could be, is totally useless, which is why i respond and tell the poster so... its not my fault you guys think I am rude when I say a totally irrelivent post in my thread doesn't help me any. if you notice my first RESPONSE in the thread it was this: [bold]Thanks, and I do not mean to be rude, but that really doesn't help me at all. [/bold] I feel that is a pretty logical and professional response. Then IHOE responds with "and I see how greatful you are! Welcome to AfterDawn!" I have nothing at all to be greatful for when someone posts about some off topic thing and then says "oh yeah by the way sorry i cant help you with the question you asked". Its really just stupid... I don't mean anyone any hard feelings, but I also don't care if you like/respect me or not. I just came here looking for an answer to a question, and kjvsword was the only one that even responded about the actual question...
