hell there i have a Samsung writemaster SH-W162C and have a mager problem with it. until reacently it worked perfictly. i removed it so that i could install an OS on a new build pc, when i put it back into the old system it would not work. I was recognised in device magager and would eject so CD's/DVD's could be loaded, but it would not spin or recognize the discs. i thought it could be a fermware problem so i used the Samsung firmware update utility. Once it finished i got an error message saying "Flash Update Failed" now the drive is not listed in device manager, will not eject and the little green light on the front is constantly flashing. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it.
Make sure you have the IDE cable firmly connected to the back of the drive plus connected firmly to the IDE controler on the mother board. Then try updating the firmware again or revert back to your old firmware version. It should have made a backup of it.
Gee, I hope you didn't brick it! Only thing that comes to mind as having happened is that an update was attempted and failed. I don't know what kind of smarts the Writemaster has, but there's a firmware updater you can try.
