    Hi,

I have this sony dvd writer which is almost two years old. On the box, it says Sony Dru-170c. But when I go to device manager, it is detected as a Sony DVD AW G170A. I wasn't having any problems with it. Hence I was too lazy to remove it and go to the shop and get it exchanged. So anyways, here is the problem...

I am having some problems writing and reading with this particular drive. This problem seems to crop up only for dvds and not cds as far as I have noticed. I get this power calibration error while trying to write certain dvds. And I was able to write on the same dvds at my friends place

Initially, this drive was working fine. I was able to write and read dvds/cds. But now, when I try to read a particular dvd, I get some windows error. It's always erratic, it sometimes reads, and otherwise doesnt. When it reads, it's extremenly slow

The same dvds, that were burnt using this drive, cannot be read by it. But it works fine with my samsung dvd/cd rom drive and also on my friend's sony Dru-810

I even tried flashing the firmware to ad7170, but the problem persists

Writing Cds seem to be ok. The problem is just with dvds. Could someone tell me how to recify this problem? Could it be a firmware issue?
