    Hi,

my home computer popped up the message "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt" \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM.

Unfortunately I cannot find the original Set-up CD ROM. Any ideas what could be done to remedy the problem?

see if one of your friends (who has a windows xp installation cd) can make you a bartpe bootcd. From the bartpe you can run a chkdsk c: /f this command will fix most file corruption and make your computer bootable again.

If you can't get a bartpe, you can try the free "testdisk" it's a live cd that can boot your computer and fix hard drive corruption. It's always best to try a chkdsk first, it will usually fix your problem.
