Hi all, I just recently purchased a new HP p6130f desktop. My dad wanted his friend to downgrade it to windows XP from vista. When i bought the computer, it had 8GB of RAM on it, but now after the downgrade, windows XP says it only has 3.25GB RAM. I am so confused right now about what i should do, can somebody help? thank you.

For xp all you really need is 2 gb. I can't tell any difference when running 1 gb or 2 gb, and I do alot of video editing.

So keeping it at 3gb is no problem.

Install XP64, it will bring your memory back. Sure, XP will run fine with 3GB...but your programs might not run as well as they would with more memory. BTW...Video editing uses very little memory, usualy less than picture editing. Besides, if you didn't want 8GB, why did you pay for it?

It would make better sense to wait a little while for Windows 7 64 bit to hit retail instead of going back to Vista. Can't you stick with XP for now ?, I'm sure most of us cope more than well enough in 3.25GB of RAM.
Or go back to Vista, but there was obviously a reason why your dad wanted it off there.
