During a fresh install. It stops at installing video drivers. I get a blue screen with the following error message. "The file vga.sys is corrupted" "Press any key to continue" Does anyone know what caused this?

More information required. How old is the computer? Was the original OS WinXP? Are you attempting to use an OEM type installation CD slipstreamed with service packs? Or is the WinXP installation CD a retail version?

You need a different xp pro install cd.
And possibly a more compatible video card, but start with the disk first.

It's a fairly new computer. And, I'm only trying to install Windows XP. With no other service packs, or updates. Everything in this computer worked just fine before I had to install (corrupted .dll files). Maybe it is just the CD.

    Sean,
Yes, that's exactly what I was working towards with all the CD questions. What brand and model computer? Is your install CD from a system builder, retail, or made as a backup from your computer?

I built the computer. I just have never come across this problem before. It's a retail cd. I just don't understand. I've changed nothing since I built it some 6 mos. ago.

Sorry, been busy elsewhere. Generally, an OEM type CD with slipstreamed service packs does this by loading the wrong video driver. This has got me stumped as well. Does your MOBO have on board video, or PCI, AGP card? Do you have another hard drive you can test this CD on? Or another CD?

MOBO has an AGP slot. No onboard video. I have a brand new hard drive. Just got it the other day. The Windows disk has no service packs. Just Windows. But, I don't have another Windows disk to try. Trying to aquire one.

Edit: As I said earlier, I'm as stumped as you are. Nothing in the system has changed, and it worked before. One thing for sure, the problem is the HDD, CD, or Video Card. Since the CD and video card worked before, there's no reason why they shouldn't work now. Maybe a manual DOS format from the command prompt, to make sure the HDD is clean? Been awhile, I think the first command is FDISK, then If you want the drive to be bootable use the "format c: /s" But, too make sure just Google it.
