i've had numerous dvd players over the past 5 years, now each time i'll own it for so long then while watching a movie the video and audio will freeze then resume again 5 to 10 seconds later, now i've seen this problem on every dvd player that i come into contact with and even with my friends and families dvd players. now i've been told that this problem is due to dirty discs, or that the dvd is too old, or that if it is copied, then it was burned at too fast of a speed. I've been trying to find out what the root cause of this problem is and so far every where i look there is no discussion on this problem. i'm just wondering if some of the good people here could point me in the right direction. thank you
ve9jmc, Welcome to AfterDawn. Yes, I have experienced playback as you described. From my experience this was caused by burning at too fast a speed. I had to redo from the "original" and not the backup. I was lazy and redid from the backup but the problem only persisted. When I redid at a slower speed from the original, the problem was resolved. Use recommended media. TaiyoYuden, Verbatim, "Made in Japan" Sony, Maxellm or Fujifilm. Burn at 1/2 the rated speed. Make sure your burner's firmware is up to date. Here's a recent thread with some excellent information: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/407567
ok thank you for the reply, but the only problem that i find with that is that it's doing it on Store Boughten Origional dvd's as well, not just ones that are copied from my origionals. but again thank you for your reply and it may give me some indication as to why this is occuring. i'm spent numerous hours cleaning discs, and cleaning the laser eyes, but it still persists, which to me almost indicates a problem with the software that most players use, but then again i don't know enough about their software to make a defenite decision as to whether that is the culprit or not.
I've been having the same problems. Cleaned my drives and player with a drive cleaner, tried reversing the copy and burn drives, tried different brands of discs(yes, verbatim), tried slowing my burn speed to 2x: all no help. If anyone has any ideas such as increasing buffer, or memory, let me know. I have 500mb ram now. Really getting frustrated...Thanks in Advance!
