I just recently switched 2 machines back to XP Pro from Vista Business. After the switch, both machines are will no longer burn DVD-R's at all. Regardless of whether we are trying to burn a bootable ISO file or backup a DVD using DVDFab Platinum, it does not work. I was able to burn DVD-R's using the same 2 programs/methods flawlessly with Vista Business.

Both machines are using Lite-On Drives found here: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106019
Both machines are using the same copy of XP Pro SP2 with most automatic updates updated.

I have tried about 6 different brands of DVD-R's, initially thinking I had gotten some bad media, but haven't had any luck with any of them. I haven't tried any DVD+R's, but some say that it might work, but it doesn't make much sense to me why a -R wouldn't work and a +R would.

DVD Fab Platinum will say that it has burned the DVD successfully, but when i either re-insert the disc back into the drive or put it in the DVD Player, it does not read. On my Phillips DVD player is says "Unknown Disc" and within XP it shows an empty disc.

I use a program called ISO Recorder. I right click the ISO file and "Create ISO Disc" After that, the program opens and it does not recognize the media that is inserted into the drive.

I am in need of burning a couple bootable ISO discs and would like to backup some of my media. Keep in mind, that I was able to burn DVD-R's without a single problem while using Vista Business. If anyone could please shed some light as to the problems that I am having or could give me a solution, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks!

Also, when trying to back-up my DVD's using DVDFab, like I said it shows that it is complete and the little preview screen shows the movie being played. But when I insert it into my Phillips DVD player or try and play it using Windows Media Player it does not work at all. Just thought that might be some more information you could use to try and track down the problem that I am having.

    Thanks again!

and you have changed nothing hardware wise at all?

    -----------------

have you installed the mobo drivers for ide controllers? infact all drivers from the motherboard install discs, chipset etc? check your DMA for all drives is on.

you may ned ti install an ASPI layer for the drives (go to adaptec site)

Nothing has changed h/w wise at all.

All drivers are installed via ASUS's site.

    DMA is turned on.

Could you please explain the ASPI a bit more? I am not familiar with that.

I tried to install those adaptec drivers with no luck at all. Now, I can not even send a file (be it an image, song, movie, avi, whatever) to the CD Drive. I get an error pop-up that says..

"Windows encountered a problem trying to copy this file. What do you want to do?"

No luck at all with anything I have tried...Any input would be GREATLY appreciated.
