Hi all, I am a N00B to the dvd-r game and have yet to not make a coaster (wasted 5 DVD-Rs and 2 DVD-RWs)..
I need to know what i am doing wrong. I mean i use Nero and all i want to do is backup data!
PLEASE HELP! THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE!

-I have a Toshiba SD-R5002 drive with the Toshiba SD-R5002 X031 RPC-1 (patched) firmware version ( http://forum.firmware-flash.com/viewtopic.php?t=8727&highlight= for more info)
-I have Optodisc brand DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs and both have yielded coasters, although the failed burns for the DVD-Rs burn all the way up untill 80+% while the DVD-RWs dont even begin to burn and fail at thr begining.

Well funny enough, after reading many posts not only in afterdawn.com but also other sites, it turns out ppl with the SD-R5002 burner from Toshiba have experienced problems using NERO. So I decided to try out Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 and sure enough it worked on the first try. Although the second burn failed. I'm assuming it was a media problem. Will try again and let ppl know.

    fuderyuu,

I'm afraid you could well be right. I used to be a keen Nero supporter, but not any more.

My advice would be to steer well clear of Nero at the present time.

These are the errors i now get with Easy CD & DVD Creator 6

    E8004187b: Disc error - corrupted format - [05/30/05]
    E80041934: TrackWriter error - Flush failed - [T7127]
    E80041925: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed - [T7118]
    E8004187b: Disc error - corrupted format - [05/30/05]
    E80004005: Unspecified error

    once again.. thanks in advance.

I just bought this drive a couple of days ago since the price was only 200$. I have only burned 2 movies. I used a Maxell DVD-RW and a DVD-R burned movies perfectly. I don't think these drives work well with OPTODISC media. just get better media and you should be fine.

I have tried whitelabel and sentinel dvd-rws. Manufacturer info is OPTODISCK001.
Non worked in toshiba 5002. Works fine in pioneer a05.

I have burned on Verbatim dvd-rws about 10-15 times without probs. Now I started getting sense errors with verbs also. I use recordnow max and nero. After full erase discs works almost always.

    Bog and others,

So i forgot to update this when i found a solution. Aparently the damned drive doesnt like optodisc DVD-Rs (at least not allways out of 15 that i have tried now, only one sucess so i am giving up) and definately hates Optodisc DVD-RWs even moreso.
I decided to update my ASPI drivers to the current ones from adaptec and try some Riteks. I'll be damned if I have yet to burn a coaster with those DVD-Rs. Well I lie, I did burn two coasters but I was using DVDxCopy. As soon as i used nero and Roxio's EZ CD & DVD Creator it worked! Thank u all.

I bought this drive about a month ago. No problems writing to Imation Dvd-R, but can't erase Imation DVD-RW disks at all. Tried Nero, Easy CD 6, no luck. Have tried Memorex DVD-rw's. Seem to erase a little better.
