Problems encoding through Virtualdub

    Hi,

I've recently been recompressing lots of MPEG movie files into DivX 5.0.2 to save space. The original files were 400MB each and I've realised I can compress these to 200MB each with no loss in quality.

I wanted to compress the audio using my mp3 codec but I found that virtualdub would ALWAYS stop after about 20% of the process.

Because of this, I decided to encode the audio using the Windows Media Audio V2 codec as it compresses a lot quicker and actually worked (unlike the mp3 codec). The only problem is that the audio slowly falls out of sync with the picture, until by the end of the movie (each 45 minutes long) there is a noticeable and very annoying lag of ~500ms. So you see someone speak on screen, and half a second later the sound comes.

What could be causing this, and how would I fix this?

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris.

I wouldn't know how to answer that. Try posting on the divx.com forums, they seem to respond more quickly, and more fully.
