I had an LG GSA-4163B for the last four years and always worked perfectly, but i had to change it last week due to malfunctions that i believe are related to it's age and natural wear down.

So i bought an LG GH22NP20 last week and experienced a few problems with it.

First, i recorded a few backups of dvd9 games i downloaded (of games i already own, by the way) and worked perfectly, the games all work smoothly.

Then i tried to make images of some dvd's i have here and it also worked, but when i tried to record those images, it didn't work properly.

It will start to write the lead in and won't progress beyond that.Every time, with every recording software i have. I tried Alcohol, DVD Decrypter, Clone CD and all did the exact same thing.

One of the times, after almost ten minutes of "recording", i stopped the process and after checking the dvd, i noticed that it was actually burned up to a certain point, but that was it.

I went back to the store and traded the Driver for another one of the same model (only one they got on store) and it showed the same problems.

I searched for firmware updates for this model and didn't find any.

Can anyone help me? No one i talked to seems to know what the problem is.

Sorry for my bad english! It's not my first language.

    Thanks in advance.

Seriously, it's been over a month since i posted this question and didn't receive more than a single reply.

By the way, i tested Imgburn and it didn't work. I reformatted my PC and reinstalled Windows XP and the problem wasn't solved.

Did anyon ewho have this problem managed to solve it? please, this thing is making me nuts!

It sounds like a device fault. Honestly I don't know.. there is a reason I don't buy LG drives.. because I have always found them to be shoddy.

You got a replacement with no questions asked.. which tells me that the shop are suspicious of the drive. The replacement was probably from the same batch, so could well have exactly the same fault.

What I would do is install nero 6 or 7 (*cough cough* usual sources.. don't pay just to test a theory.. you can buy it later if you like it) and use the.. wassit called.. the quality scan tools.. errrm.. cd/dvd speed? Burn a full test disk and then post the logs.

I'm expecting to se something like "positional error @ xxxxx" or "focus servo error" when it gives up trying.

It will also (probably) give us some hints about the firmware and actual chipset in the drive which will help to find if there are any firmware updates.

Lastly.. you could have a batch of bad disks.. especially if they are cmc wearing memorex/maxell/tdk colours.

    Hi,
I have same problem with this drive (GH22NP20).I purchased it last week and since than I am trying to find out what is the problem with it and why I can't do direct burn from DVD-ROM to the GH22NP20.

Clone DVD 5.2.8.1 dose not see this drive as a burner when you are trying to use copy from one DVD to another.

Yesturday I installed Nero 7 premium and succeed to make DATA burn from one DVD to another.

My old DVD burner is LG GSA-4082B and clone CD was recognize as a burner with out any problem.

I will do some more test and update in a few days
