I'm having problems with audio in Vista...if you couldn't tell by the thread title. System sounds work fine, and sound that comes off of the internet, such as streaming video and music works fine, but when I try to play an MP3 file, or an AVI, I get no sound. Windows Media Player won't even play any mp3 files, and with video, all I get is the video and no sound. Any idea what the problem is, and how I can fix it?
Sounds like a codec issue (vista can be a bit tempromental) Try downloading this codec pack ----->http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Codec-Packs-Video-Codecs/Advanced-Vista-Codec-Package.shtml <------ let me know if it helps -el munkee
I don't think it's a codec problem. I had multiple codec packs installed, and now I can't even get sound on any internet sites, and I haven't done anything else to the computer since yesterday. I'll try your suggested codec pack though, and thanks for trying to help.
Unfortunately, the codec pack didn't work, not to mention it turns out I already had that one installed before, and deleted it because it didn't solve the problem. So, it's not a codec problem. Any idea what else it could be?
