    Hey;

    I recently got project64 to play my Hydro Thunder ROM; but during gameplay there's a slow fps of about 5-30 fps; making the game half as fast as it should be;;; now I don't think the problem is my computer because I can play quake 3 arena on it with ease (i would think that's just as computer intensive as any emulator)....

    the computer im emulating on is a HP Pavilion 6630 w/ intel celeron 500mhz
    about 9 GB HDD
    191 MB RAM
    Win98 SE

    P.S. I also tried it on my newer emachine p4 3.06 Ghz w/ 200 GB HDD
    and it was just as slow; so I don't think its a problem with the computers.....

    Any help is greatly appreciated:)

    You played it on Project64 huh? I would say it's definately your PC but then you mentioned the other one.
    When selecting the game to play -in the rom list- it should say on the right whether it has any bugs or not- it could just be the rom has a prob. Not ALL roms work fine and dandy.

    BTW- What graphic card are you using on the second PC?

    Okay;

    I got a better copy of Hydro Thunder and tested it on my P4 computer and it worked fine........on the old crappy intel one though; it still gets a slow fps.....

    P.S. The reason why I want to run the N64 roms on that computer is because the Sidewinder Joypad I have has to plug into one of those older style inputs as opposed to a USB....

    Also; I know that on the intel celeron (the crappy one) my SNES emulation games play through just fine...

    Lastly; I was looking forward to being able to emulate ps1 games on the old intel; do you think it'd still work?

    As for video cards though; (if the old celeron even has one;) everything is basically stock in both of these computers....I know that the p4 had a HDD upgrade and the crappy intel got more RAM a while ago; but then that's it

    One last question: when I go around and ask people what I can do to upgrade this old intel; they tell me that you can't.....well; do you think I'd at least be able to put in a better video card through one of the PCI slots in the back?? And if so, would the N64 ROMS at a faster frame rate then?

    Yeah a graphic card should help -AGP/ PCI- on the old one, more RAM too and most likely a new processor- the whole deal but gfxcard should contribute a lot alone. The FPS is obvously slow cos' your PC doesn't meet the requirements same goes for the PS1 emu. The sidewinder control that fits on the old gameport should still be conectable on your new PC too. IIRC motherboards still cay that port (yellow colour).

    edit--
    You're better off just gettin a new USB gamepad, I use my PS2 controller, for N64 games, on the PC via a PS2 to USB converter.

    So if i got upgraded to about 256 MB RAM (thats the max it can hold) and got a video card; would that speed up the frame rate to normal so I could play the game at normal speed (60 fps?)

    P.S. When buying a vid card; how do you know how much RAM on it to get; do just match it with the RAM on your computer???
    Example: Computer has 256 MB of RAM;;;Video card is 256 MB

    or is the memory on a vid card just a choice??Also; would I see a greater improvement if I put in one with 512 MB??

    Thanx for your help;

    You have an old PC and so your processor speed may be the main cause despite upgrading. The gfx card is not a guarantee that it will improve your FPS rate and the max you can get for it for your old PC is 256mb. Also, yes it is your choice which size memory you want on it. If your CPU was atleast 1ghz then there would be a chance of playing it properly. But because it's not I wouldn't recommend you buy a graphics card for many reasons, some are that you can only get an old one and it will be a waste of money. As I said before it will be MUCH cheaper and better if you just buy a USB gamepad for your newer PC.

    Although I'll probably buy a newer gamepad anyway; I still wanna upgrade this computer to maximum potential......and I googled HP Pavilion upgrades and found an HP site with how to upgrade a whole bunch of stuff on it.....
