hi, ive been using this software for months and it is excellent, good quality stuff. But all of a sudden i get this message when i try to convert AVI to DVD to burn onto disc: ""Can't decode this file! may be the file is broken or the system not install the decoder ! Please download the decoder : [DivX/Xvid Decoder] from homepage : http://www.winavi.com"" The problem is that its says this with every file i try to convert, also I can't find the codecs on the site. Do i just download a DivX/Xvid codes from anywhere i.e. www.free-codes.com? Or if there is a different problem, what is it and how can i fix it?? Thanks btw, i have the registered version
Having a registered version of WinAvi has no effect on the capability to load an AVI if you miss its codec. I would download DivX from http://www.divx.com/software/ and Xvid from http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/ . Otherwise you could install the general decompression utility FFDShow http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm ...but you can do what you prefere. After all, all those CODECS are good, and Xvid is free and DivX must be purchased only for COmpression purposes, is free if it's only needed to DECode (but FFDShow is slightly faster. The problem is that it modifies Window's DirectShow filter and it's better if you've got administrative rights on Windows [which is always so, if the PC is yours]). If after installing DivX and Xvid (which cover 99.9% of the AVI movies) you go on having that error you must assume that the 1st possibility is the true one. In this case, you should try some video fixer. I don't know, when you deal with movies sometime you can find corrupt movies (and few times you can fix them), so no guarantee...
i downloaded both divx and xvid programs, and now mine works fine. are you still getting the same error message ?
yeah, its annoying, but i have NeroVision Express working now, so its all good!! I still would like to get WinAvi working again though>! ~Shaun~
Well it's probably stupid problem but I had the same error. You do not have to set the .srt file in winavi. When you just give winavi the command to convert the .avi file then automatically the .srt file is been used. (sorry if my english is not so good)
