its driving me nuts cause you never know when its going to happen can go for days and be fine, then suddenly when in the middle of photo editing or video editing it just restarts with no warning, have rung the help line and they said to use the resore disc as it was probably a problem with windows done that and makes no difference, im just about at my wits end will it make any diff if i buy a copy of windows xp and use that, cause found once before that the restore discs dont work very well and when i bought a copy of windows and reinstalled the problems went away
Have reformatted windows 3 times with the recovery disc and it doesnt work, thats why i was wondering if i bought a full copy of windows if it would make a difference always seem to have problems with the recovery disc never seems to put everything back on the puter
There's the clue you need to look at more closely. Never under-estimate the power of the obvious. Photo/Video editing software can take up nearly, if not all, of your CPU/GPU resources. Running either one at 100% during the encoding process. A sudden restart of the system during this time is either a bad system driver...or heat. Now you can reinstall your motherboard (chipset) drivers or video drivers....but most people never take off the side panels of their systems and clean out all the dust that has built up over the fans and heatsinks on their CPUs or video cards. Just a thin layer of dust will rob the fan's cooling effectiveness and allow the chips to run hot...since dust does not radiate heat, it absorbs it. I'd suggest opening your system and clean that puppy out. Use a can of compressed air, don't use a vacuum cleaner, and don't touch any of the components without first touching the metal cage of the computer.
