Processor/ram requirements for a media center?

    I want to build a media center PC that plays on my 26" tv. The only requirements is that it have 5.1 channel support, and an HDMI out. I need it to play HD MKV and FLAC files as well. What type of processor and how much ram would I need for this build, I don't want to overdo it. A remote control would be nice too.

    If anyone has any suggestions for the build (OS, case, video card, ETC), feel free to post them. Thanks

    A standard dual core like an E5200 with an HD video card like a Radeon HD4650 would do fine. I tend to say a minimum of 2GB RAM as the stuff's so cheap it makes no sense to use less.

    an ion based PC will work aswell, in a mini ITX format with an E5200, OR you could go for an atom based ION PC.
