What is the best way to do this, or is it even possible. I simply want to copy a DVD-9 onto a normal DVD-R, but keep the main menu...I don't know if this is possible, but just asking...and if it is possible...how hard is it? Thanks
Either DVD Shrink then Nero (or other burning app) , or DVD Decrypter > DVD2One > Nero. May I ask why you want to keep menu's , as it's not a needed function really & only detracts from video quality ? (I do understand that some ppl NEED menus tho , as my sister has an old LG DVD Player that wont play back ups w/out menu also it must be an -R disc) _X_X_X_X_X_[small] I give you all these seed bearing plants & 'erbs to use...[/small]
Hi Ben, There are a variety of ways to do this. You can use a program from 321 studios called DVD X copy express. Heres a link to it: http://www.dvdxcopy.com/all_products.asp They have a free trial (limited to 3 uses) then you have to buy the license #. About $60.00. I have it but rarely use it, it puts a big warning at the front of the movie, and you have no control over the creation of your back-up. It is easy though. Another method is to use CloneDVD with AnyDVD. AnyDVD sits in the backgroud decrypting while you use CloneDVD to compress and burn the DVD. These programs cost about $40.00 each, but have a 30 day free trial. A little more difficult than Express but work very well. You can use DVD Shrink to decrypt and compress your movie then use a burning program like Nero to burn your movie to your disc. A favorite of mine. Another method is to use DVD Decrypter (free) to remove the encryption and then use Nero 6 Recode 2 to compress, edit and burn the movie to a blank disc. Nero 6 has a 30 day free trial. Burning DVDs can be difficult at first. Spend some time here at Afterdawn, we have a lot to offer people just getting started. Let us know what programs you like and tell us about your computer and DVD burner. Read a bunch of posts here in the newbie forum to get an idea of what others are doing. Scubapete, Jerry746 and others spend a lot of time here and can coach you untill you get it right. Good luck, Frank
[bold] use dvd x copy xpress. copy the whole movie to one dvd-r with the menus/special features. i have great success with it. very simple to use. a 1st grader can probably do it.
Can I just add , I really do [bold]not[/bold] suggest DVDXCopy (of any form) or any 321 Studio products. DVD Shrink (which is free but not mentioned as so above) is probably the best to learn to use , here is a pictorial step by step: http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php
Well, I already have all these programs from reading the past few weeks, I've borrowed them from friends, etc...so price doesn't matter as I have them. Anyway, made a copy of PoTC last night with DVD X Copy Express, but the menus are not there? :|
^ Yea, when I do that...and its done reading it in...there's an error that it can't fit on the disc, its a standard 4.7GB Maxell DVD-R, maybe I need to update it? I don't get it....
That program tends to drive people insane or to drink heavily. I really think you should move on to bigger and better things. You can call 321 studios (use their toll free installation help number) and they can help ya. The program must have removed the menus to make it fit. There are no options to leave menus or do much of anything else. As you can tell, I do not care for it. As herbsman said use Shrink and Nero, we will guide you through untill you get it down. Frank
^ Its funny you say that...I did just give up with DVD X, used Shrink and Nero and it just finished like 10min ago, it looks great...albeit, I had to remove the French audio tracks to make it fit...but that's hardly an issue. Thanks guys. Shrink is awesome...
Hey Ben, Congratulations! Seems you've got it down! Did you get a chance to go to http://www.dvdshrink.info ? The guides for Shrink and Nero are great. They will give you some insight on the process and are fun to use. Happy burning! Frank
Glad to hear DVD Shrink did it for you too [bold]DVD-Ben[/bold] ...that freeware has quite a following ; ) And unlike 321 Studios rubbish , you have no warning screen at the start of film & no restrictions on copy-to-copy (you can get round extra copy tho) Anyway , happy burning
