ok people i have done some research and looking but cant find anything that sticks out. i was wondering is there an unofficial way to name your songs. i usually just go artist then song. but lately with ripping my albums i am finding that there are alot of duplicate songs becuase of greatest hits albums, live albums and remake. so i am asking for people to give suggestion of how they keep and name there collection. is there some unofficial proper way? thanks for any input. and couldnt find this in any forum. move if necessary. thanks crazydrve
Well you could add album name to the filename, or place the songs in different folders according to the album, why not just delete he duplicates?
yeah i am thinking bout adding the album name to title like this: artist - album - title. and i know its stupid but i want complete albums so i dont want to delet the dups. sometimes there live versions, remakes etc. so they are in a way different. thanks for your replay. also i didint know if there was some assumed proper way that online people name there songs when there sharing. tho i did see several different ways using torrent as a test.
No prob, but I think "album - artist - title" or "artists - title - album" works better. There is no PROPER way though
Sounds like you may be in need of an advanced music manager. Last count I've ~8,000+ songs and am extraordinarily anal about keeping everything taged, neat, and clean. I use Media Monkey to handle the management of the files as the ability for tagging in any order you wish is almost endless. Media Monkey allows you to create your own tag system as well - allowing you to choose what works best for you. Media Monkey uses an advanced cross referencing system to keep your files by <artist> *, <title> *, etc. within the same folder and subsequent sub-folders if you wish. So, if you've an artist with specific releases, as well as music from the same artist on Various Artist compilations, and/or mix's, re-mix's, making a cameo apparence on another artists song, Media Monkey easily references this to the artist file, or file of another artist they're connected with. It's worth taking a look at, and maybe taking it for spin as it's completely free. It has too many features for detail, but I also use it exclusively for my music on iPod, it can sync with almost any MP3 player on the market. No worries about wiping your Pod clean as iTunes loves to. If you're interested hxxp:mediamonkey.com Good Luck
