I need an external burner for a Mac computer.

First, I want to make sure that I can get a decent burner for $100-150. Yes? No?

Second, what brand should I look at? Any burner recommendations?

Third, do I need a dvd-r burner, or is dvd+r ok? dvd+r media is cheaper, so that's why I'm asking.

Fourth, are 16x burners/media recommended, or should I stick with 4x?

Fifth, which site is better to get a burner from, newegg.com or meritline.com?

Lastly, some of the burners at newegg are rated as follows:
    8X DVD+RW 4X 16X DVD-R

What the hell does 4x 16x mean?

    Thanks in advance!

yo id recommend hp ive had an external from them for over a year and couldnt be happier... i dunno bout which website i didnt purchase online.. 16x is great if ur just burning movies or music... if your burning games too then make sure it can burn slow as well. then again it all depends on the media your computer and how well you take care of your cds.

    Happy burnin

Invest in a BenQ Models...1620, 1640, 1655...the later being the new one....There are a few other Companies that make excellent DVD burners as well. The newer burners, will handle all your burning needs, with almost every format there is...excluding DVD-Ram. Not many people even use that format though. BenQ also has an external model, here's th link:
