I have a really curious problem that nobody seems to be able to help me with.

I run Windows XP and have a Plextor PX-504A CD burner. In case you are unfamiliar with the device, it plays and burns both CDs and DVD+R/RW. I have the firmware upgrade that allows it to use 8x DVDs. No problem. I've used it recently to burn many DVDs with absolutely no problem.

Nothing had changed, but then one day it just stopped reading blank DVDs. I'm using compatible DVD media, the same ones I had used successfully so many times. But now, the lights blink when I put a CD in, the CD icon appears next to the cursor, but after a few moments it goes away and nothing happens. All the burning programs say there is no disc in the drive, and when I select the drive through My Computer, it says there is no disk in the drive.

I can't find help anywhere. I'm really hoping someone here will be familiar with this problem and can help me.

Is there a glitch? Perhaps a lost driver or component buried somewhere in my computer I should look for? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Which blank discs are you using? (brand) and what type are they? DVD+R, DVD-R, or DL?
