    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum.
The drives shown @ overclockers that are wothy in my opinion are.
    1st Pioneer 111
2nd Nec 4570 (these drives share the same chipset [NEC], but behave differently due to manufacturers approach)
    The above done on VFM.
The Plextor PX760a (not SATA) is better.
A drive that should be considered is BenQs' 1650 (or the 1655 with LightScribe). take a look @ TechFever.

ok thnx for reply so as u say it comes down to those three but would u say it was better to stick with a nec 4570 or the pioneer 111, or go for the plextor which means more than bouble in price

    Hi,
The fact (& I know you had no way of knowing) that I've got all three shows it's a close run thing.
If money isn't a problem then the Plextor especially with Taiyo Yuden media is the cream of the crop.
If you feel that it's difficult to justify the price difference then the Pioneer edges it for me. Although using same chipset as the Nec, Pioneer seem able to produce a drive that's not only an excellent reader but is in no way a compromise when it comes to writing. Of course future f/w may reverse these standings.
BTW I'm probably getting rid of my Nec drives (3540/4550/4551/4570) as I've got another 760 coming tomorrow. Plus the possibility of a good deal on a Pioneer on Sunday. I already have 7 DVDRWs' 'on standby'.

    Lolastars: From your site:

I'd take these in order, and if money was no object:
Plextor px 716- A lot more money, but very good burner.
    Sony DRU 810A
    Pioneer
    Nec 4570
    LG
    Liteon

Now on zebadee's link,my mouth is watering:

    Benq 1650!!!!!!!!

Can't buy these in the usa yet,but I got one ordered from canada. If it's like the benq 1620 and 1640, I will be happy. Benq are awesome drives,at a low price.

Booktyping capability for higher stand alone compatability. Booktyping ability is my main aspect of a quality dvd-rw drive. That sony dru 810A is a rebadged benq 1640.

I've got 3 benqs, and 1 on the way- all fabulous with over 99.9% success rate.

    1 I/O Magic 16x EMPa drive pc of crap,sitting in a box
    1 HP 640C lightscribe-Poor backups,but a great reader and light scriber.
    1 Khypermedia +8x: Used as a reader

I learned my lesson the hard way about the quality of dvd burners. Look at some of the stuff that benq drives can do using the qsuite utility:

Overburn protection. Yes,these drives will burn 8x media at 12x and 16x.It will burn 8x media at 8x in case you left the burn speed setting at max.

Solid Burn: After a few burns,it learns how to proprerly burn your media.

Booktyping: Turning the plus format to dvd-rom for higher compatable backups

    Hi,
I've two 1650s' & two 1655s. One of each retail/oem. The 1655 is marginally better, this is likely a f/w thing. It's possible to crossflash these drives. Although why you would is a bit beyond me*. The 1650 as a 1655 will not give you LS as it's not supported by hardware. The 1655 as a 1650 loses LS due to the f/w.
*I have tried this just to see if it was possible.
