Followed this writeup http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/494836 I used 1) DVDFab Decrypter 2) FixVTS 3) DVD Shrink 4) ImageBurn OK, I followed this process exactly as above. I didn't remove anything with DVD shrink because it showed green and would all fit on a DVD, I used DVD shrink to create the ISO file and burned with ImgBurn at 6x. The quality of the new DVD is not as good as the original. Why??? I thought it would be the same. Thanks
What kind of blank media are you using? Cheaper (crappy) media can easily have an adverse effect on quality. Use the good stuff. Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Sony.
Thanks for the input. I just read through the DVD Shrink guide again and I see that even though it was green, it could be due to compression.. I never checked that. I need to check it when I get back home. BTW, I used HP DR00041XM HP 4.7GB/120-Minute DVD+R Spindle (25-Pack) Are these not good?
According to this: http://www.cdfreaks.com/media/DVD+R/HP/DVDR-4_7GB-16x-for-Data_Video.html I personally don't use CMC MAG discs.
No they certainly aren't good. CMC-MAG's are the lowest of the low. Avoid those three letters your whole life (C-M-C). Your backups probably aren't looking as good as the originals because they are compressed. You can't fit a DVD9 onto a DVD5, without removing any extras and expect the quality to be the same, which is most likely what your doing. Even though the compression ratio is "Green", the video files may still be compressed somewhat, try burning to Dual Layer DVDs (8.5Gb) if you want to keep everything intact and still have the same quality. Also, get some better media. (Verbatim, Sony, etc...)
You should remove everything you don't need. The DTS audio alone can be more than 500MB. Even if it has to compress 40%, DVD Shrink can still show you a green bar. If the compression is high, use the quality enhancements/settings.
They are good, and the price is good, but i would try and get DVD+R and booktype them to DVD-Rom if your burner is capable. They had the +R on sale at Office Max, 100 for $25(don't know if it is still on)
That's the idea, Verbatim is pretty much regarded as one of the best brands you can get, the best being Taiyo Yuden (again according to popular opinion). The only thing you should watch out for, is people have noticed differences depending on where a certain batch of Verbs were made. The Made in India batches (MID) are generally regarding as inferior to those Made in Singapore or Japan. Some people even experience failed burns and recording errors and such, which is not something usually common with Verbatim so if you do get those you may have a bad batch. Since your ordering online, just go straight for Taiyo Yuden's, you can't go wrong, unless their fakes, so buy from a reputable online retailer like Newegg, Amazon, etc...
If you order online, try here. http://supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-16x-dvd-plus-r-media.html Then booktype as Cyp suggested earlier to Dvd-Rom, if you're burner is capable.
