The other day I downloaded the smart burn utility from lite-=on sites. It was a one file exe file. What is it purpose? From what I can see it identfy's the disc manufacter, but does it change the programming of the drive to match the disc? Do you have to use it with every disc or just one out of the spindle?
You're probably talking about the booktyping utility............... You can booktype your +R, +RW or +R DL blanks to make them DVD Roms. This will make them more compatable, with most dvd players. Only works with +R discs.
No there is another utility other than the book typing utility. Its labled as smart burn . What is it and what does it do? Is the book typing utility your talking bout permanent or by disc basis? http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/English/e_downloads/e_utility.asp Its underneath the book typing utility. Maybe its just an identifier, but im curious.
it just shows you the media information for the discs that you are using in the drive~ that's about it~ here is the description of what it ACTUALLY does per the Liteon site: This SMART-BURN utility will help you to verify the information of the media you are using, such as the brand, the types ( CD-R / RW, DVD-R / RW, DVD+R / RW, Double Layer DVD+R ), speed limit...etc. i have quite a few Liteon drives myself, but, have never found the NEED to use/download/install this smartburn.exe utility, but, the BOOKTYPING utility i HAVE used on ALL my Liteons for the booktyping~ and yes, it is PERMANENT once it's set, you can manually change it anytime you wish, but, it's permanent...another utility that does the booktyping is also KProbe, either or..they both work for Liteon drives...also, NERO will booktype permanently too, i use NERO for my booktyping on my Sony drives, which are in fact, rebadged Liteon drives hope that helps docTY~
