I recently bought DVDXTREME in a bid to back-up my DVD collection (I have a 9-month old and she's began to get around the house faster and faster). I was urged to purchase DVDXTREME and after buying it, believing I'd be able to burn DVDs, I was met with this email: Thank you for supporting us with your purchase of our product. As loyal customers know, 321 Studios is committed to advancing your fair use rights. We need your help now more than ever! Due to an injunction recently placed on 321 Studios by Judge Illston of the Northern District of California, USA, who found that portions of our software violated the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA), we can no longer sell or distribute our DVD X Copy software with a "ripper" in it. A DVD ripper allows your computer to read CSS encrypted data on some DVD movies before or during the process of making a backup copy. 321 Studios has appealed the adverse portions of the ruling. While we will appeal this ruling, we urge you to join the battle. You can learn more about the fair use issue by visiting websites such as Electronic Freedom Foundation`s www.eff.org. You can write members of Congress, expressing your outrage that a law that supposedly affirms your fair use rights nevertheless denies your entitlement to the tools to exercise those rights. Visit 321-sponsored www.protectfairuse.org for more assistance in reaching your Congressional Representatives and Senators. -- Now before I attempt to get my money back, I ask is there a way in incorporate the "ripper" or get around this problem?
You can use a ripper like DVD Decrypter which is free, and if you get DVD Shrink which is free also, you won't need to use DVDextreme at all. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]motorcycle racer computer newbie Sony VAIO Suzuki GSXR1000 [/small]
Hi, After you rip with Decrypter you'll want to point DVDXtreme to the files Decrypter made. Frank gave you great advice in checking out DVD Shrink. It's free and much better than 321 products. Get your money back and get some quality discs. DVD43 is another free option. It was made to work with the ripper free versions of Xcopy. It runs in your system tray and disables the copy protection as the disc is being read. _X_X_X_X_X_[small] JMLS-166S/Plextor PX-708A/Plextor Premium[/small]
